A Mistake Not Worth Repeating For The New Freelancer
Many new freelancers who start out in their first projects have the unfortunate tendency to go in over their heads. I know for sure since it happened to… yours truly. I’m sure most freelancers can agree that when first starting out, they worry more about how you will find your next projects instead of focusing on the one they already have. Well, I happened to have found a quick project and upon looking at

    Dog Walkers & Your Career
I was jogging in the park the other day and noticed a number of professional dog walkers. They had many dogs under their care and the necessary tools of their trade. Nothing remarkable about that. What struck me was a) the number of providers I saw on this one visit, b) their marketing efforts, and c) the range of services offered. Parked on the streets around the park were various types of mini-van and SUV, em
Summer is way too short here in Montreal, so it's no wonder that business slows down for most of us. That's why it's a good time to relax, regroup, and reflect over the past few months. What have you been doing right? What could you improve on? How can you use these next few months to prepare for September? Here are a few things I've done myself that have helped me regain focus and remember why I got into business for myself in the first place:

    • Continued education and professional development: I completed an intensive coach certification course and specialized in leading teleclasses. I have also consistently given teleclasses every month: This not only takes me out of my comfort zone, but helps me hone my listening and public speaking skills. If you want to stay positive about your business, its vital that you spend some time on yourself, developing in a direction that motivates you.

A Sane, Satisfying Working Life: How You Lost It And How To Get It Back
Corporate ‘life’ is a nasty oxymoron.Jam-packed days, endless demands to do more with less, impossible goals, rally the troops, jump on a plane. Miss your kid’s birthday. You know these painful facts all too well. An existence? Yes. A path to a paycheck? Certainly. But, a life? A well-balanced, appropriately challenged life? No way.Is it any wonder that you are filled with dreams of escape

Go Get What You Want - Results!
I was taught repeatedly in my sales training that if you don't ask for the sale, you won't get it. I have turned this lesson into a life philosophy, and I get what I want most of the time. You have a lot of personal power, whether you know it and exercise it or not. Let's look at an example.Let's assume you have a business plan for 2006 and your marketing plan includes publishing an email newsletter, t

          Ghost Hunting Should Be Professional
Ghost Hunting can be very fun and yet at times it can be one of the most terrifying things you will probably ever do in your life. The following are just a few of the things folks have encountered during ghost hunting or paranormal investigations:1. B.U.I.L.D. A Great Brand
Powerful brands are built, not born. A quick perusal of global marketing consultancy Interbrand’s fifth annual ranking of the world’s top 100 brands clearly demonstrates this fact. Released last summer, Interbrand’s listing illustrates the value of having a disciplined and methodical approach to brand building. According to Interbrand, the most valuable brands "focused ruthlessly on every detail of their

        • Pin down your 30-second pitch: No matter where you are professionally, this is something that always needs work. Your life & business are constantly in evolution and your 30-second pitch will need to be reevaluated accordingly. Summer is ideal for this; business is slower, so take advantage of that to step back and get more clarity on your own "big picture".

        • Volunteer: Offering just one hour per month as a committee member of a local networking group has helped me make connections I wouldn' t have otherwise. It can be very satisfying to share your expertise with people or organizations that strive to make a difference in your own field of business.
