When did we abolish liberty for security? When did Patrick Henry’s famous speech of 1775 lose its meaning? Even though American freedom has always been under threat, there was a defining moments in history that enslaved the citizenry of this nation. August 14, 1935 -- the year the State became our savior; the year President Roosevelt’s New Deal and signing the Social Security Act transformed the “land of the free” into a nation of sheep.

No, you say, this can’t be true. After all, wasn’t this program created to protect all Americans, especially the elderly? What about the words themselves? Social and Security; you can’t get more compassionate and caring than those two words. How safe we feel, how sheltered, knowing that a government-run entity is looking out for the interest of the public. It is a fantasy; it is not Truth.

Perhaps the time has come to rethink the whole idea of retirement; maybe it is time to remove Social Security and the taxes that pay for it. But first let’s take a closer look at how we arrived at this place of false security.

As the financial implosion of 1929 took the country into the Great Depression, the opportunity for a “socialist solution” was ripe. Proponents for State power finally got their big break with the act of Social Security; a method of taking more control over the individual.

This is Socialism in a nutshell; the soft word for Communism. To grow into full-blown Communism, the citizenry must become conditioned to accept security and surrender freedom. That’s the trade-off. Today, seven out of every ten employees work for the government; most of the attraction for the worker is the “retirement” benefit. If we are going to get our nation back to a country based on liberty we must free ourselves from this notion of safety provided through the State.

I realize it is a scary idea, but why? Is the State so ingrained into our consciousness that we can’t even imagine ourselves without it? Or perhaps we have an impression that life must have been miserable before we were “saved” by government. Even with their low technology and low productivity rate, the elderly lived well. According to gerontology research, there is strong evidence that retirees relied on private pensions and investment income for support in their old age. In other words, there was an independent, non family based retirement plan before Social Security. Not only were the elderly secure, the data reflects that they often withdrew from the workforce. This choice was not “forced retirement” but rather a decision made by the individual. Also, keep in mind that these older Americans managed well even in Depression conditions.

The difference lies in the taxes. The following is a list of taxes you pay for the false security you receive: Federal Income Tax, Federal Unemployment Tax, Workers Compensation Tax, Social Security Tax, Medicare Tax, State Income Tax, State Unemployment Tax, School Tax, Real Estate Tax, Property Tax, Inheritance Tax, Capital Gains Tax, and 35 added taxes.

These taxes did not exist 100 years ago. Our Republic was the most prosperous nation on the globe, with no national debt and the wealthiest middle class in history. Perhaps the older generation before Social Security lived a higher standard of living than you.

When we return to liberty, Social Security will die; it will not survive the future and the coming technology. There will be more opportunity, more wealth, and innovation than all the previous ages before. The transition will happen when 78 million future retirees reject The Federal Reserve, fiat money, the (illegal) income tax, and State sponsored programs. They will return the nation to a true Republic. Yes, there are enormous challenges ahead, so hold on, because the times, they are a changin’.
