    Research Buying Tips
In some cases, such as reviewing the Yellow Pages to determine the level of competition for a specific geographic area, marketing research can easily be accomplished by small business owners themselves. However, as the research becomes more complicated, the small businessperson may wish to turn to an expert in the field. Numerous research fir

Yes, it may cost your company money to institute some employee motivation programs, or training programs, or maybe even increased salaries, but what will you get in return? Employees that are happy to work at a company that values them and thinks they are worth the investment you make.

Differences In Work Ethic Between Russians And Americans
Lynn Visson's "Wedded Strangers" identifies differences in work ethic between Russians and Americans:“Americans, with a work ethic, grew up knowing they would have to work hard to get a job. For Russians, under the Soviet system, the government found them a job or they got a job through personal contacts.”“Under the Soviet system, the idea
There was recently an article about a recent Harris Interactive survey that found that many organizations still do not recognize that their workforce has a direct correlation on their business success.

    Don't believe them?

How many times have you gone into a business and been treated rudely? The staff were sullen and it was obvious they did not care about their job. Did you really want to go back to that place of business again? Alternatively, think about a time when you went into a business where everyone got along and was happy. Wasn't their mood contagious?

The difference between the two businesses? How they are treated by their employees.

The Harris survey high-lighted a few areas where employees are not satisfied with their current employer

    • They want competitive pay
    • They want to be treated with respect
    • Want to be recognized for a job well done
    • 100% healthcare coverage

While I certainly know where they are coming from with wanting full health-care, those days are over. The rising medical costs every year make it so that a company already has to take a hit to provide healthcare to their employees, and full-coverage would drive it into bankruptcy…or leave the employee with the worst healthcare imaginable.

Few companies realize that employees WANT to do a good job. But at the same time, when you are benefiting from their hard work, is it really so hard to say good job? Maybe a monthly ice cream party or lunch? Make your employees feel motivated to want to work harder for you.

While the scope of jobs at your business may differ, the overall treatment of your employees should be the same. A person's job description may describe what they do, but it shouldn't define who they are. The janitors in your building should be treated just as nicely and fairly as your CEO.

Another item I would add to the list is education. Every year when performance reviews roll around; in the self-appraisal, as well as the formal appraisal, there are always notations about wanting to take classes to increase their knowledge. Great! What happens 4 months later when there is a class the employee wants to take? They are denied because the class costs too much, or they can’t possibly miss time from work to attend this class.
