At present searches of the 1911 census are carried out at a cost of ?45 per search, the cost of this reflects the fact that searches have to be done manually with no refund if the search is unsuccessful.
The 1911 census at present does not have a name index so you have to search by address, in order to get the records you want you have to supply all of the following details, House name or number or Building name or Vessel name and county and Civil parish, requests for information cannot be processed without all this information.
The National Archives only supply a basic research service based on specific addresses; they cannot supply personally sensitive information from the 1911 census.
It has been reported that the records are in good condition and stored at the Kew repositories in accordance with British archival standards. The records have been examined by conversation staff and even though they estimate that 50% of the records do have creases or folds this will not affect the legibility or scanning. 5% of the records have required more extensive restoration work to ensure that they can be scanned. The enumerator’s summary books are however in excellent condition.
