    Managing Change In The Workplace
Crash!Aaarrrgh! The scream of a manager scurrying to cope with yet another organizational, technological, competitive, market, industry, socio-political or other kind of momentous change.Yep. Managing in today's world is a bit like walking through a field of land-mines -- any moment now another big change is going to erupt and irrevocably alter the landscape. And you never quite know when or where it's going to explode... or what it's going to do to the environment.Let's face it...Whatever tools you're using today... next year they'll be different.Whatever your customers want today... next year they'll want something different.Whoever your major competitors are today... next year they'll be different.Okay, maybe the year after next year.Or maybe before the year is out!Whether you like it or not, you will confront change. But since history shows that those who resist change get left behind, I suggest you start liking it!You see, although I've painted a negative picture of change -- as a field of land mines -- I re

    Resolutions....How To Keep Them
Do you make resolutions every year only to find that your resolutions have fallen by the wayside. Research shows that most resolutions don't last past the second week of January. Why? That's what this article is going to concentrate on, and how you can keep your resolutions on track. The most popular resolutions are to lose weight, stop smoking, eat better, get a better job, start my own business, spend more time with my spouse/kids, you can fill in the blank with your resolution. One of the main reasons resolutions aren't kept is that we make too many of them at once. So, the first step in keeping resolutions is to do them one at a time. Especially for weight and smoking cessation, it is important to take little steps before you get to the main goal. For example, for those of you trying to quit smoking, studies show that long term smokers (10 plus years) have a hard time quitting cold turkey. So, what I did, was to keep a book and I wrote down every time I had a cigarette. Then each day I tried to cut one out. Did I slip sometimes, yes, but eventually I got down to 5-6 a da
The purpose of this article is to investigate the current hot topics of project management. In the 21st century, there is a clear swift from hard systems approach of project management to soft factors, a demand for strategic thinking in project management (Buttrick, 2000), new success factors (Atkinson, 1999) and project uncertainty management (Ward & Chapman, 2003). Broader project management theory and more intense research efforts are also a trend in the field (Winter & Smith, 2005).

Human beings have been executing projects from ancient times (Kwak, 2003). From relocating a tribe to constructing enormous buildings such as the pyramids, projects were a dominant element of history. Not long ago, those involved in projects understood that they needed methods and processes to help them manage these projects more efficiently. To meet this need, scientists and practitioners worked together to form a new concept which was called «project management». According to the PMBOK’s definition "project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to project activities to meet project requirements". ISO 9000 Implementation
Businesses face lots of challenges in the international market. Implementing an ISO 9000 initiative is an action-oriented program that refers to obtaining ISO 9000 registration and working with its standards. The ISO certification process starts with pre-assessment audits and passes through on-going maintenance. The process of implementing ISO 9000 includes identifying, collecting and organizing the information required for certification.ISO 9000 is a generic standard. It can be applied to any organization that intends to set up a quality management system, whether the organization is small or large, for-profit or governmental, whatever the service or product. The certification is now implemented by thousands of companies around the world. Many countries have taken it as their national standard.Application of ISO standards generally refers to the process of implementing the collective intent of ISO 9000 family. The family includes four standards on quality management and quality assurance, namely, ISO 9000: 2000 (presenting fundamentals and vocabulary), ISO 9001: 2000 (presenting quali

Holiday Season: More Opportunities for Savvy Job Seekers
Are you thinking of slowing down or stopping your job search activities during the holiday season? Many job seekers do. Which means better opportunities for those who do not. Here's why:Less competition! Jobs don't disappear during the holidays, but many job seekers do. Whether it's due to family vacations or just an attitude of "I'll relax a bit now, then double my efforts after the New Year begins," fewer people will be competing for your dream job this time of year.New openings! Many companies interview during November and December for new positions starting at the first of the year. The hiring managers are eager to find people who will help them get off to a great start in 2006.More networking opportunities! 'Tis the season for parties, socializing, card-sending... networking! Attend as many events as you can, and let people (even your relatives) know you're interested in finding new opportunities. Send holiday cards to people you've recently interviewed with -- even those who chose another candidate. You never know when some other opportunity migh

    Work At Home Institute
Nowadays we used to frequently watch many people say many things about a related job. It is skimpy detail they would want to establish or occasionally create a useful order, rule, a legal action, to become their income different. However, they have been more repeatedly claiming then the proceedings, or attitudes in focused management to institute a modern lifestyle. The statistics have pointed that a ninety and five percent of what we have done everyday have had little meant for us precisely. It has led clearly to the forgetfulness. It means we have had forgetful in what we have done simple without listening fun or significance. The other five percent we have got sense, It has been marked our selective memory, even if it have had not been so significant for other people. Maybe what we have done in our private living in this negotiable percent time could arrange matters eventually replace continually.Well, I positively consider there are two different directions to graciously hit this post. «project management». According to the PMBOK’s definition "project management is the application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to project activities to meet project requirements". (A Guide to Project Management Body of Knowledge, 2004). There are many different views in the literature concerning the birth of project management. Maylor (2005) mentions that "project management in the way that we would understand it today did not exist until the 1950s" and Wideman (2001) tracks the first use of project management in the UK’s Institution of Civil Engineers report on UK post war national development first published in 1944.

Since then, there have been a lot of changes. "The hard systems approach, which treated the project as a mechanical activity, has been shown to be flawed" (Maylor, 2005). The soft skills of project management are getting more attention because it is now clear that "the ability to apply these skills effectively throughout the life cycle of a project will enhance the success of a project exponentially" (Belzer). In spite of the perfect understanding of planning, scheduling and controlling, projects have still a high rate of failure.
