A view dictated by the top players and past experiences in the industry; a view that had little significance and offered even lesser room for improvement, if any. The organizations were used to have a vertical hierarchy and centralized control with mechanistic structure. The era was marked with inefficient operations, delayed processing, de-motivated employees and information loss that proved to be critical for many organizations. Most organizations were neither aware of nor realized the importance of technology in achieving efficiency in their businesses. One of the earliest and most influential researches into the relationship of technology and organization structure was conducted by Joan Woodward. Today, Information Systems have changed the way organizations are structured. You don't necessarily have to agree with them but perhaps you can empathise with their point of view. The successful manager thinks about the people they have to deal with, is sensitive to how they see things and knows that they might think differently than they do.Let me give you an example: I've always had a thing about good timekeeping; it's something that's been programmed into my brain. If you agree to meet me at 8.30 in the morning, I'll be there at 8.20; I will always do my utmost be on time.So I used to get angry when a member of my team would show up late for a meeting or an appointment with me. When I got angry I'd get stressed and end up saying something that I regretted later. Therefore, I learned to start thinking about the situation and try to see it from their point of view and not let my programming run my brain. That doesn't mean to say I ignored the lateness or did nothing about it; I thought very carefully about what I wanted to say and spoke to the team member about how we woul Top 10 Mistakes Entrepreneurs Make Before They Even Start nesses that don’t focus on customer satisfaction. You print some brochures, some business cards, and take out an ad in the Yellow Pages. You pay $600 for a website and a domain name that tells everyone about your amazing credentials and experience. You distribute your fliers at a local grocery store. And then you wait. And wait. And wait…Nothing happens. But, that’s what everyone does, isn’t it? Print out some brochures, tell everyone how great you are, and wait for the money to roll in.Stop right there. You have just made the top 10 mistakes entrepreneurs make.Mistake # 1: First, being a “carpenter” is too general. There are a million carpenters in the world, but the only successful ones have something to concentrate on. Wood carving, house renovation, specialized pieces. Like the old saying goes, “Jack of all trades, master of none.”Mistake # 2: If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. An idea is not a business plan, or a marketing plan, or even just a goal. In this particular article, he was discussing women in business and the different set of attributes they bring into the workplace. And it got me to thinking. For a long time, women in competitive careers were led to believe (and many times rightly so) that they had to "play a man's game" in order to progress and succeed in business. And though for years, women have been successful in business playing by "man-rules", it's absolutely not necessary, nor good advice for today's success. What we now know of course, is that men and women may have different perspectives and approaches to business.
