    There are certain characteristics in a leader that makes them successful. Here is a list of certain qualities that effective leaders possess:

    1. Visionary. A leader can see the big picture. A leader can see where his/her people are going. He/she motivates and inspires the team with direction towards the challenge. Vision allows for a leader to influence people in a direction that he/she feels is the best place that supports the vision.

    2. Sets a good example. Takes responsibility and upholds an image that he/she is leading his/her people towards. A leader follows through with action. He/she exhibits the characteristic of integrity. A leader is willing to step up to the plate and perform the duties they are delegating.

    3. Effective communicator. Articulates message to the audience with appropriate use of emotion, charisma, grace and authority so that the followers understand the direction they are going and will support the leader. A successful leader listens to the followers, an essential part of communication.

    4. Seeing situations in a new perspective. New ideas and methodologies are welcomed and encouraged. Does not stay stuck in doing the same way over and over again.

    5. Catalyst to problem solving. Sees solutions and invites others to problem solve. A leader fosters an environment that allows his/her team to brainstorm solutions allowing everyone to be involved in the process.

    6. Mental toughness – Humbly accepts and learns from criticism and is not derailed by discouragement. Using criticism as a learning tool to accepting and believing in himself/herself.
