Remember this is the 2nd game of the year for me. The first round was in March, so as you can imagine, my game was not at par (yes, pun intended). The trees are now starting to bud out but the course has been emerald green for some time now..

I use a driver off the tee and ended up about 195 yards from the green in the fairway. And I’m thinking about how much I love this game. I then pull out a 7 iron and hit the left side of the green. I actually decide to putt from the shaggy part of the green and then I putted in for a par. Wow am I happy!

My tendency is to slice with my driver so I’m often out of bounds on my first stroke. And today is no different. Now is the time when resolve is tested, nerves may frey and your game either goes down the tubes quickly or you rise above and end up with a great game.

Fast forward to the last hole which is a par 5 measuring 512 yards. This hole tends to play to my game with its gentle dog leg right. My drive off the tee finds the fairway and leaves about 300 yards. Then it’s a 3 wood from the fairway which pushes the golf ball out to the right, skimming a sand trap and about 110 yards from the green. I use my nine iron and end up slightly overshooting the green so I have to chip on. Then smelling victory, I putt 25 feet to within 9 foot of the hole. Almost home, I proceed to putt 2 foot past the hole. Not phased, I put again and go 5 feet past the hole. Finally on putt number three I make it in. A double bogey. Not a great finish. Not a bad round.
