Lamu Kenya: Best Sights Lamu Old Town Walking Tour-Kenya Coast loosen up those ties. D.C. is a town that lovesLamu Kenya Walking Town TourThe best, indeed the only, way to see Lamu is on foot. Few experiences compare with exploring the far back streets, where you can wander unnoticed amid wafts of cardamom and carbolic and watch the town’s agile cats scaling the vertical coral walls. This tour will take you past some of the more noteworthy buildings in under an hour, but don’t feel bound to follow it too rigidly. In fact, getting slightly lost is a vital part of the process, and I downright insist that you tackle as many detours and digressions as possible! Most of Lamu’s buildings date back to the 18th century and are constructed out of local materials, with cut coral-rag blocks for the walls, wooden floors supported by mangrove poles and intricately carved shutters for windows. Lavish decorations were created using carved plaster, and carpenters were employed to produce ornately carved window and door frames as a sign of the financial status of the owners. There are so many wonderful Swahili houses that it’s pointless for me to recommend specific examples-keep your eyes open wherever you go, and don’t forget to look up.Starting from the main jetty, head north past the Lamu museum and along the waterfront until you reach the door carving workshops. In recent years, there has been a revival in wood carving and you can once again see traditional carved lintel and doors being made in workshops like these all over Lamu. From here head onto Kenyatta Rd, passing an original Swahili well, and into the alleys towards the Swahili house museum. Once you’ve had your fill of domestic insights, take any route back towards the main street-if you can-if you can hit the road leading towards Matondoni, you’ll pass a particularly elaborate original carved door in the Arabic style.Once you’ve hit the main square and the fort, take a right to see the crumbled remains of the 14th century Pwani mosque one of Lamu’s oldest buildings; an Arabic i Ebay Explained - Advanced Search Welcome to the Nation’s capitol! The Democrats Have a Mandate! about our sport’s teams. But they aren’t really that bad - the D.C. folk really do know how to loosen up those ties. D.C. is a town that lovesThe Democrats claim to have a mandate and even Nancy Pelosi claims to have a mandate? Sure she does from her own district where it is completely unbalanced like the rest of America where 90% of her voters are clearly left wingers. Sure the Democrats have a majority, but it is really slim 232 to 201in the House and 51 to 49 in the Senate. But consider all the various factions in Congress Today, the Democratic Party is hardly cohesive or cooperative, which they tell all of us to be each time we criticize their unintended consequences. Filibusters of course continue in the Senate, doing nothing more then clogging the system? Of course, in a way this is good since government does nothing very well, so they may as well do nothing. And do not blame me for that quote, Ronald Reagan uttered those words in a radio speech once. The Democrats want to take away our guns, but in reality we should make sure they do not bring them to work, because with all the hot heads, they are probably prone to shoot each other? Of course their current favorite weapon is "investigations" and every time we turn around we see them investigating someone? Truth is we ought to investigate all of them in the House and Senate? What do they say about he who screams loudest? With all the scandals in the various agencies and all the investigations it really seems that they are running a shadow government and so maybe President Bush was right to dismiss all those Justice Department folks, as they seem to be behind a good bunch of the slander campaigns against Republicans. Why can't they just get along? The Democrats do not have a mandate, they cannot even get their voting straight these days. And now with Lieberman an independent and Olympia Snowe the Republican from Maine, these two folks have just as much power as the entire Democrat Party sometimes. As far as over-riding a Bush Veto? It will never happen the Democrats do not have the votes and are a mixed-ma Problem-Solving Success Tip: Plan for Things to Go Wrong that bad - the D.C. folk really do know how to loosen up those ties. D.C. is a town that lovesPlan for things to go wrong. We’ve heard it before, and it’s still true: if something can go wrong, it will. Figure out ahead of time where your problem solving effort is vulnerable and develop appropriate contingency plans. Start on this as soon as you begin the problem-solving effort, making it a normal part of defining a problem.Vulnerabilities are all the things that could prevent your problem-solving project from succeeding. Typical vulnerabilities include changing priorities, inadequate resources (people, money, time), staff turnover, key players unable or unwilling to participate, other projects not getting completed on time, etc. Of course, the list will be different for each problem, and the probability that any particular vulnerability will occur varies as well. The key is to identify them, and assess each one for probability of occurrence and impact on the project if it should occur.Develop contingency plans immediately for any that have both a high probability of occurring and a high impact. You may also want to develop contingency plans for low probability/high impact issues. Low impact issues, especially if the probability is low, are probably not worth significant contingency planning. You will need to monitor your environment throughout the problem-solving project so that you’ll know early if any of the vulnerabilities show signs of occurring. Your monitoring program should always include regular communication with all participants in your problem-solving project as well as with the leaders of any projects you are depending on. You’ll want to let these people know either that everything is on track or, if a vulnerability is materializing, that you know about it, are executing an appropriate contingency plan, and understand what implications there are for the problem-solving effort as a whole.Copyright 2006. D.C. is a town that loves its Happy Hour – a time when you can catch up with friends or meet new ones.Outside of their recent ‘no late fee’, everyone's 'local' video store has initiated a few 'new policies'.I recently went to my local (albeit a nationwide conglomerate) video store to get a game for my son. This is certainly not an unfamiliar occurrence as he has had a game console before he could walk. As usual, I walk up to the counter to provide my video rental card (although everyone behind the counter knows me) and lo' and behold I am told that they need a 'major' credit card on my file to rent the game. What?! As it turns out (and not surprisingly) that this new policy is in place due to the fact that an undisclosed number of people are not returning their games (I always wondered what the insurance statistitions did on their time off). From a business stand point I understand. From a consumer stand point I think that it should be based on individuals. How the rest of consumers interact with video rentals is truly none of my concern. I have never kept a game or even a video and if I had, I would suspect that my account would be closed or significantly overcharged for the 'purchase'. This I can handle, if I mess up then charge me accordingly. But if a few (or even more) bad apples spoil the bushel, then why am I to be held responsible for them? Needless to say (with no uncertain amount of grumbling) I gave them my credit card to simply acquire a game. You would think that this would be the end of my rant. Unfortunately it doesn't stop there. Last evening I went to my video/game rental behemoth to get another game title for my son (ok, it was for me also) and not paying close attention I inadvertently picked up an X-box game NOT an X-box 360 game. What was I thinking? Only to get the game home and realize a return trip is in order. Thankfully, my son has reached the ever cherished moment in a young man's life of having a driver’s license. I sent him on the journey to exchange the shortcomings of his father. Only to hear that when he gets b We saw you smuggle your after-work change of clothes into your cubicle so that you’re ready for the 5 o’cloc
