Sure the Democrats have a majority, but it is really slim 232 to 201in the House and 51 to 49 in the Senate.But consider all the various factions in Congress Today, the Democratic Party is hardly cohesive or cooperative, which they tell all of us to be each time we criticize their unintended consequences. Filibusters of course continue in the Senate, doing nothing more then clogging the system? Of course, in a way this is good since government does nothing very well, so they may as well do nothing. And do not blame me for that quote, Ronald Reagan uttered those words in a radio speech once.The Democrats want to take away our guns, but in reality we should make sure they do not bring them to work, because with all the hot heads, they are probably prone to shoot each other? Of course their current favorite weapon is "investigations" and every time we turn around we see them investigating someone? Truth is we ought to investigate all of them in the House and Senate? Plan for things to go wrong.We’ve heard it before, and it’s still true: if something can go wrong, it will. Figure out ahead of time where your problem solving effort is vulnerable and develop appropriate contingency plans. Start on this as soon as you begin the problem-solving effort, making it a normal part of defining a problem.Vulnerabilities are all the things that could prevent your problem-solving project from succeeding. Typical vulnerabilities include changing priorities, inadequate resources (people, money, time), staff turnover, key players unable or unwilling to participate, other projects not getting completed on time, etc. Of course, the list will be different for each problem, and the probability that any particular vulnerability will occur varies as well. The key is to identify them, and assess each one for probability of occurrence and impact on the project if it should occur.Develop contingency plans immediately for any that have both a high probability of occurring and a high impact. You may also want to develop contingency plans for low probability/high impact issues. Low impact issues, especially if the probability is low, are probably not worth significant contingency planning.You will need to monitor your environment throughout the problem-solving project so that you’ll know early if any of the vulnerabilities show signs of occurring. Your monitoring program should always include regular communication with all participants in your problem-solving project as well as with the leaders of any projects you are depending on. Fault the Few - Blame the Many - A Video/Game Rental Observation
Outside of their recent ‘no late fee’, everyone's 'local' video store has initiated a few 'new policies'.I recently went to my local (albeit a nationwide conglomerate) video store to get a game for my son. This is certainly not an unfamiliar occurrence as he has had a game console before he could walk. As usual, I walk up to the counter to provide my video rental card (although everyone behind the counter knows me) and lo' and behold I am told that they need a 'major' credit card on my file to rent the game. What?! As it turns out (and not surprisingly) that this new policy is in place due to the fact that an undisclosed number of people are not returning their games (I always wondered what the insurance statistitions did on their time off). From a business stand point I understand. From a consumer stand point I think that it should be based on individuals. How the rest of consumers interact with video rentals is truly none of my concern. I have never kept a game or even a video and if I had, I would suspect that my account would be closed or significantly overcharged for the 'purchase'. This I can handle, if I mess up then charge me accordingly. But if a few (or even more) bad apples spoil the bushel, then why am I to be held responsible for them? Needless to say (with no uncertain amount of grumbling) I gave them my credit card to simply acquire a game.You would think that this would be the end of my rant. Unfortunately it doesn't stop there. Last evening I went to my video/game rental behemoth to get another game title for my son (ok, it was for me also) and not paying close attention I inadvertently picked up an X-box game NOT an X-box 360 game.
