The Indian Ocean crashes its foaming white swell upon the rocky shore, fringing slopes of fynbos and high forest, cut into only by rocky ravines patiently carved out by the persistent flow of rivers as old as time. This National Park is home to a fantastic array of tidal life and deep sea fish. Amongst the waves schools of dolphins and porpoises can be seen at play, and whale watchers can enjoy the sight of the ocean's friendly giant, with the Southern Right Whale visiting to breed inshore.

Situated on the scenic Garden Route, Tsitsikamma National Park was once home to the Khoisan and thus the name is taken from a Khoisan word translating to “place of much water.” Some eighty kilometers of rugged coastline serves as one of the biggest Marine Protected Areas in the world. The long coast is inter-spaced by deep ravines running water down from the remote and lush mountain landscape characterising the region. At some places cliffs as high as 180 meters serve as a barrier for the Indian Ocean's raging waves.

The rocky coast serves as home to several pairs of African Black Oystercatchers, a very much endangered South African bird. A walk through the forest may reveal the Knysna Lourie with his distinct call well known to bird lovers, while the vigilant may witness the tiny antelope – the Blue Duiker – darting between the trees of the forest. The rivers and coastline serve as ideal hunting grounds for the Cape Clawless Otter, who dines on the crabs found between the rocks.

The region's cultural heritage can also be observed in the form of Khoisan caves and rock art, as well as the grave sites and ruins of small fishing settlements. If you are looking to get a guided tour which will enlighten you as to the area's history, then a party of ten at least ten people can book a tour.
