My sons had a twin bedroom in the hotel annex which was equally large and both rooms were furnished with antiques and had wonderful bathrooms with the usual toiletries and bath robes. We enjoyed a drink in the Great Hall which has a roaring log fire and numerous areas to lounge about in. We stayed at Cliveden House a week before Christmas and admired the tall original tastefully decorated Christmas tree surrounded by Christmas presents. Next to the Great Hall is the library which is another delightful room to relax in overlooking the gardens. There are also a couple of smaller lounges where you can enjoy some privacy. What a wonderful place to spend Christmas! There are two restaurants one of which has a Michelin Star. We ate in the Terrace restaurant and thoroughly enjoyed dinner-the service being excellent and the food a delight. Gentlemen take note-you must wear a jacket at dinner and jeans are not permitted when dining. Cliveden House has more staff per guest ratio than at any other luxury country house hotel we have stayed at-yet they are unobtrusive but always on hand to look after your every need. Cliveden House has a spa with treatment rooms, an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, two outdoor hot tubs, a jaccuzi, sauna and steam room. Cliveden House does not feel like a hotel-instead you feel that you are in somebody's home. We enjoyed afternoon tea in the Great Hall-sandwiches,scones with clotted cream and a selection of jams and cakes. You can choose from numerous varieties of teas-try the Cliveden blend!Oh yes-the hot chocolate is memorable. Enjoy a short walk down to the River Thames and arrange a trip on the hotel's own launch.
