I bet Sandy wished her husband had not gotten out of bed that one particular morning that forever changed her life. I met her in a ministry meeting about 12 years ago on the victory side of her ordeal. Sandy is an evangelist now. Her wounds still bleed, but they don’t bleed blood. Her wounds bleed the oil of healing into tragedy.

It’s very significant how you get out of bed, because what you do with your life can drastically affect another. Somehow in our world today disregard to others is so blatant that it is unreal. Every time your feet hit the floor to start another day you will bless, empower, or add to a life, or you will hurt, harm or endanger one. Was anybody happy to see you wake up this morning?

When Sandy’s feet hit the floor that morning it was a normal day. She left home doing her normal things. When her husband’s feet hit the floor, he proceeded to get a shot gun and stalk her down. He found her on a freeway, ran the car off the road, dragged her from the car, put the shot gun to her face and pulled the trigger. Which side of the bed did you get out of this morning?

But God had a plan. Her sister was with her that day and she went for help after Sandy had been left for dead. She survived though she still wears the scars on the side of her face which was blown away. Since that time her life’s work has been to minister to the abused in ways you would not imagine. She is indeed in the trenches of life, healing and restoring with wounds that bleed oil.

Her story is one of the extremes, but what about yours? What would happen to our world if everybody got up and thought about how their actions for the day would affect another before their feet hit the floor? I guarantee life would be extremely different. I can recall instances in my own life where decisions from people that I trusted caused spirals of events and I am sure that you can do the same.

When I watch Sandy in action I see a person full of the joy of the Lord. She has put an eraser to her past and takes joy in those she can help today. Her ability to forgive is astounding. Looking at my life I can truly say that I have gotten out of bed on the right side more often than the wrong. I guess I really did listen to the golden rule that mama taught me. Do me a favor, if God’s gives you power to draw another breath tomorrow, get out on the right side of the bed and know that someone will be glad that you are alive.
