Understanding the Gospel of Matthew and Why it Matters - Part 5

A Brief Study of Jesus' flight to Egypt in Matthew 2:13-15

God Became Man

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. --JOHN 1:14 For thirty-three years Jesus felt everything you and I have ever felt. To think of Jesus in such a light is—well, it seems almost irreverent, doesn’t it? It’s not something we like to do; it’s uncomfortable. It is much easier to keep the humanity out of the incarnation. There is something about keeping Him divine that keeps Him distant, packed, predictable. But don’t do it. For heaven’s sake, don’t. Let Him be as human as He intended to be. Let Him into the mire and muck of our world. For only if we let Him in can He pull us out. Listen to Him.

Who Is He?

“What do you think about the Christ? Whose son is he?” --MATTHEW 22:42, NCV After three years of ministry, hundreds of miles, thousands of miracles, and innumerable teachings, Jesus asks, “Who?” Jesus bids the people to ponder not what He has done, but who He is. It’s the ultimate question of the Christ: Whose Son is He? Is He the Son of God or the sum of our dreams? Is He a figment of our imagination?

Formula for Spiritual Growth

The Bible maakes it plain that we must become mature. We are not to be like the Hebrew Christians who remained at the same place they started. They were instructed to leave the first principles and go on to maturity. The formula for growth is laid out concisely in Second Peter 1:5-7. We must be careful to follow the exact order given. Skipping steps will give us in trouble in a hurry. Spiritual maturity requires all the faith and patience we can muster.

Fool for God

The following article is an exploration of the Spring holiday season and its spiritual implications. In it will be a unique perspective with a special emphasis on the importance of owning our dualities for the purpose of transcending them. Remote Viewing - Making Light of the Dark

Even Pandora and her box come in two versions. In one, the hideous woes of the world are let loose while locking hope inside. In another, life’s joys are allowed to overflow their container, leaving the dark behind. In both versions, the light and dark of all metaphor clearly exists in perpetuity.

Sole Work - Walking the Spiritual Path

For the past several years I have struggled with getting (and staying) fit. Ok I admit it, the struggle has been longer than just a few years. As a kid, instead of playing nicely with the girls, I fought with the neighborhood boys. I attempted to join their fun and received new scars weekly in bloody games of soccer. I was always the last one picked to play on the kickball team and, as the catcher of my 5th grade softball team, I pummeled the pitcher in the head with a fast ball. Uncoordinated in team sports, I succeeded only at baton twirling which was fun but I barely broke a sweat. After failures in group sports I thought I'd try running so, a few years ago I attempted to train for a half marathon. I ended up limping home in tears and thought I’d never exercise again. (I couldn't even MOVE after that, much less exercise!)

Stress - The Link Between Stress And Diet

As with many areas of life there is a link between our diet and the degree to which we suffer from stress and, just as important, we can also use our diet as a positive tool for combating stress.
