Discipline of Prayer: Always Connected

A daily train ride supplies insight into the nature of prayer: the power is always present if we are willing to stay connected. This awareness of God's omnipresence is the grand thing David celebrates. Jesus reminds us of it as His parting gift before ascending to the Father.

The Star of Bethlehem

Every Christmas the Yuletide card portrays a silver star in a navy blue sky and every year the same heavenly object sparkles from the top of the decorated evergreen. At season's end the three wise men and their fellow shepherds gather at a hastily set up manger for the familiar nativity scene. Though it shimmers on the greeting card and its brilliance lights up the tannebaum, it wasn't a star that erupted into a supernova on that dark Judean night. The star that shone so brightly two thousand years ago was wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger.

Living The Lords Prayer

The Lord’s Prayer is a special prayer asking that we may recognize Reality/Truth and eventually be that Truth, just as Jesus was the Way, the Truth and the Life. My interpretation of The Lord’s Prayer is not the only one, there are many others, but I am sharing mine with you in the hope that we can experience this prayer rather than just recite it.

Our King Complex

David was a great King who had ruled Israel with an iron hand for 40 years. But, time had caught up with him. Things the old king use to do, he could not do anymore. And so, the hell hounds came out of the cracks and crevices.

When Bad Things Happen (Part 1)

Rabbi Kushner could not comprehend how a loving, supposedly merciful and compassionate and just God, could allow such a tragedy to befall him and his loved ones. After all, he considered himself a God-fearing, obedient man who was living a more religiously committed life than most people. So how could a God of justice permit so great an injustice?

Life is like Golf

All of us have had failures and we have all walked down that lonely fairway of life not knowing if we would win or lose. But what brought Phil Michelson to that moment in time was not the many tournaments that he won in the past, but those that eluded him. Phil could have chosen this weekend to just say here I go again, and dwell on what could have been, yet he didn’t, “today is my day” he thought.

In the Aftermath of Mankind

When I stand on the Prairie, a living entity. Flowers blooming, animals flashing through it, if for only a moment, across paths worn by walking humans. Eagles and hawks overhead eyes so keen, I swear they can see my soul. I am swept away by scents, sounds, sights and life brought to the spot where I stand by the winds of Mother Earth.

Spiritual Healing: In The School of Christ

Spiritual healing of the sick in Christ has many Christians in a kind of spiritual vise. On the one hand they read about spiritual healing in their Bibles. On the other, they hear in pulpits that healing miracles have ceased and are not of today. The net effect is cause for confusion and even loss of faith. What is the truth about spiritual healing in today’s Church?

Abiding in the Word

If we will abide in the Word, the Word will instruct us and teach us in the way we should go (Psalm 32:8). He will also guide us to pray according to His will and our prayers will have a guaranteed effect.

Christian Religious Addiction in Hawaii?

This literature review will attempt to answer these questions and others related to the development, assessment, symptomatology, and beliefs of religious addiction.

Authentic Prayers

We diminish the integrity of our prayers when we foolishly attempt to use God as a means of straightening out the mess we, ourselves, have created. Getting yourself in debt and begging God to get you out from under is not praying. Mumbling words to Him when your back is against the wall is not praying.

Higher Self: Growing Inside of Us

Maybe once in a lifetime, we find ourselves seeking spiritual growth mostly when everything we try to do is hard to achieve. Among the many questions that consequently come out are: Who am I? Why am I here? Is there a Higher Power?

The cost of freedom is not free! A reminder on this Memorial Day weekend of the cost.

It's Ok To Be Human

Symbolism has always been important in man's development. All things are symbols. They are roadsigns or landmarks of where you are in your thinking at any particular time in the physical world. It is a simple thing to see how one is thinking just by looking at the things one gathers around oneself. But symbols can separate you from the source of your power. Danger lies in the symbol of Jesus, the cross, the Ferrari or anything that causes you to deny your power.

Gracious Forgetfulness

For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. --GALATIANS 3:27, RSV I was thanking the Father today for His mercy. I began listing the sins He’d forgiven. My motives were pure and my heart was thankful, but my understanding of God was wrong. It hit me when I used the word remember.
